Victoria Manor has its origins in the 1820’s where it began as a hotel.  The town of Sunderland, originally known as ’Jone’s Corner’, was named after the family owned establishment that lied at the heart of the town.

In 1866 on the north west corner of the Intersection, a second phase in the history of ’Jone’s Corner’ began.  The once log cabin was replaced by a new framed hotel that constituted the change that Sunderland was undertaking at the time.

In 1899, this new framed hotel was consumed by a fire that would change the face of this  historic building.  In 1910, the last phase, a new three story Victorian style structure was built by  Dr. McDermott.

The renaming of ‘Jone’s Corner’ into Sunderland in 1868 occurred after the creation of a new railroad passing through the town connecting Sunderland to nearby towns and       cities.  During this time, Sunderland, with a small population of one hundred, maintained a vibrant business community, where at its heart, the now  Victoria Manor stands. Today, the once proud hotel has continued its history of providing     excellent service by  becoming the Victoria Manor Retirement Residence.

Victoria Manor provides an old fashioned atmosphere with all the amenities of modern life.
